ONE FORMULA, ONE ANSWER
Sampling Jitter SNR Calculator
Estimate the signal-to-noise ratio imposed solely by timing jitter when sampling a sine wave. Choose input units and calculate one value within the stated conditions.
Inputs
Calculations run in this browser. Scientific notation such as 1.2e-3 is supported. Do not group thousands.
Result
Jitter-limited SNR
Enter values and select Calculate.
SNR_j = −20 log₁₀(2πfσt)
Assumptions
Required: a single sinusoidal input and small, uncorrelated RMS timing errors. This tool limits 2πfσt to 0.1 rad or less. σt is the total RMS timing jitter over the relevant integration bandwidth; root-sum-square combination applies only to independent jitter sources. Excluded: quantization, thermal noise, distortion, multiple tones and large phase errors.
Displayed values are floating-point approximations. Design safety factors and unprovided error contributions are not calculated.
