ONE FORMULA, ONE ANSWER
Tsiolkovsky Rocket Delta V Calculator
Calculate the ideal delta v from one rocket burn using total masses and effective exhaust speed. Choose input units and calculate one value within the stated conditions.
Inputs
Calculations run in this browser. Scientific notation such as 1.2e-3 is supported. Do not group thousands.
Result
Ideal velocity change Δv
Enter values and select Calculate.
Δv = v_e ln(m₀/m_f)
Assumptions
Required: m₀≥m_f>0 and 0<v_e<c. Both masses include the complete vehicle immediately before and after this burn. Classical motion with constant effective exhaust speed and aligned exhaust is assumed. Effective speed may include an equivalent pressure-thrust contribution. Excluded: gravity losses, drag, external forces, jettison and stage separation. Results Δv≥c are rejected; relativistic motion requires a relativistic rocket equation.
Displayed values are floating-point approximations. Design safety factors and unprovided error contributions are not calculated.
