ONE FORMULA, ONE ANSWER
Tidal Differential Acceleration Calculator
Calculate the difference in Newtonian gravitational acceleration magnitudes at two radially aligned points. Choose input units and calculate one value within the stated conditions.
Inputs
Calculations run in this browser. Scientific notation such as 1.2e-3 is supported. Do not group thousands.
Result
Endpoint gravity difference Δg
Enter values and select Calculate.
Δg = GM(1/r₁² − 1/r₂²)
Assumptions
Required: M>0 and r₂≥r₁>0, with both points on the same outward radial ray and outside a spherical body. Inputs are center distances. This app restricts weak-field use to r_s/r₁≤0.01. The output is a differential acceleration, not force, stress or a three-dimensional tidal tensor. Excluded: rotation, other bodies and structural response.
Displayed values are floating-point approximations. Design safety factors and unprovided error contributions are not calculated.
