ONE FORMULA, ONE ANSWER
Diffraction Grating Angle Calculator
Calculate a specified positive diffraction-order angle at normal incidence. Choose input units and calculate one value within the stated conditions.
Inputs
Calculations run in this browser. Scientific notation such as 1.2e-3 is supported. Do not group thousands.
Result
Positive order diffraction angle θ
Enter values and select Calculate.
θ = asin(mλ/d)
Assumptions
Required: positive integer m and positive λ,d for monochromatic normal incidence on a planar grating. An order with mλ/d>1 is absent and returns no number. Zero orders, negative orders and oblique incidence are outside this tool.
Displayed values are floating-point approximations. Design safety factors and unprovided error contributions are not calculated.
