Yet another horrific tragedy of this war. One Ukrainian crew member was killed and three more are still missing after a drone attack on another civilian vessel near the Romanian coast. I thank Romanian rescue services for their rapid response that saved the lives of six Ukrainian crew members. This attack once again shows the scale of the threats and challenges created by Russia’s war and the danger it poses to maritime navigation.

I really want our relations – between Ukraine and America, and with all our other partners – to be strong, truly friendly, and without misunderstandings. Because without a strong America that cares about what happens in the world, the world would definitely be a worse place. These days, people ask why Ukraine is speaking more openly and directly to the world. The answer is simple. We want others to understand us – societies, nations, as many people as possible. When people understand what is really going on, political leaders can take a stronger path – the one that can really bring peace closer. And peace is what we want more than anything. The speed limits on Starlink and Starshield are still there. The speed has not been restored. And the delivery of interceptors to protect us against Russian ballistic missiles is still delayed. We’re waiting for interceptors that were already agreed on. But they are still not coming. This is a real problem, because the Russians attack us almost every single day. All of this is happening while we continue our quite successful operations on the front. We keep defending positions. Things have become harder – partly because of the Starlink and Starshield policies and speed limits. But our frontline is still holding and I am proud of how strong our people are. My team and I spoke with President Trump’s envoys – Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. We talked about the results of the meetings in Oslo and St. Petersburg, and how we can move diplomacy forward this November. We have an agreement to hold a trilateral meeting – Ukraine, America, and Russia – at the team level. The plan is to meet in the first half of November. We are ready to meet any day – even tomorrow. But it all depends on the Russians. We expected a trilateral meeting this October, too. But it didn’t happen – because the Russians came up with another reason not to meet. Now we all need to focus on making these meetings happen – together with America, Europe, and all our partners. Can they happen without America or without American pressure on Russia? Probably not. That’s why we are…

Seventy years ago, Europe and the entire world faced a very important and, in many ways, decisive crossroads, when the people of Hungary rose up for freedom and against the Soviet system. The courage and love of freedom shown by Hungarians proved remarkably strong, and they still amaze all of us in Europe. Unfortunately, the world did not make the strong decisions needed to help them at that time. This led to further decades of totalitarian rule across much of Europe, which ended only with the revolutions of the 1980s. The year 1956 could have changed a great deal. This lesson now gives us grounds to say with absolute certainty: when people show courage and love of freedom, it is worth supporting. It deserves support everywhere in the world, so that freedom grows. I thank everyone who …

270 of our people are home. A very important result. National Guard members, including Azov warriors, border guards, warriors of the Territorial Defense Forces, the Navy, the Land Forces, the Airborne Assault Forces, and the State Special Transport Service, as well as nine civilians, are returning home. Most of them had been in captivity since 2022. Most of those released are warriors who defended Ukraine in Mariupol. Defenders from the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, and Chernihiv sectors are also returning. Many were illegally convicted in Russia. Among those returning are five people who survived the Russian terrorist attack in Olenivka in July 2022. We remember one and all and continue searching for everyone. I thank everyone who works to make the…
