ONE FORMULA, ONE ANSWER

Unloaded Voltage Divider Calculator

Check an ideal resistive divider before connecting an ADC or sensor load. Choose input units and calculate one value within the stated conditions.

Inputs

Negative, zero or positive

Greater than zero after conversion to SI

Greater than zero after conversion to SI

Calculations run in this browser. Scientific notation such as 1.2e-3 is supported. Do not group thousands.

Result

Unloaded output voltage V_out

Enter values and select Calculate.

FORMULA

V_out = V_in R₂ / (R₁ + R₂)

Assumptions

Use R₁,R₂>0. Assume two series resistors, an ideal source and no output load. Significant ADC or other loading requires a different model.

Displayed values are floating-point approximations. Measurement uncertainty and design safety factors are not calculated.
