ONE FORMULA, ONE ANSWER

Relativistic Kinetic Energy Calculator

Calculate translational kinetic energy using special relativity. Choose input units and calculate one value within the stated conditions.

Inputs

Greater than zero after conversion to SI

Zero or greater

Calculations run in this browser. Scientific notation such as 1.2e-3 is supported. Do not group thousands.

Result

Relativistic kinetic energy K

Enter values and select Calculate.

FORMULA

K = (γ−1)mc²

Assumptions

Required: m>0 and 0≤v<c. m is rest mass. The result is kinetic energy, excluding rest energy. An equivalent expression avoids subtractive cancellation in γ−1 at low speed.

Displayed values are floating-point approximations. Design safety factors and unprovided error contributions are not calculated.
