ONE FORMULA, ONE ANSWER

First-order CSTR conversion calculator

Calculate the steady-state conversion of an irreversible first-order reaction in a perfectly mixed continuous stirred-tank reactor. Choose input units and calculate one value within the stated conditions.

Inputs

FORMULA

τ = V/Q; Da = kτ; X = Da/(1+Da)

Assumptions

Required: steady state, isothermal operation, perfect mixing, constant volumetric flow and density, and an irreversible first-order reaction. The rate constant must apply at the reactor temperature. Conversion assumes positive inlet reactant concentration. Excluded: startup, residence-time distributions, equilibrium limits, side reactions and multiphase transfer resistance.

Displayed values are floating-point approximations. Design safety factors and unprovided error contributions are not calculated.
