ONE FORMULA, ONE ANSWER

Surface Convection Calculator

Apply Newton's law of cooling to a surface with a known convection coefficient. Choose input units and calculate one value within the stated conditions.

Calculations run in this browser. Scientific notation such as 1.2e-3 is supported. Do not group thousands.

Result

Heat transfer rate from surface to fluid Q̇

—

Enter values and select Calculate.

FORMULA

Q̇ = h A (T_s − T_∞)

Assumptions

Use h,A>0 and a known mean h. The tool does not infer h from velocity alone. A surface colder than the fluid gives a negative heat transfer rate.

Displayed values are floating-point approximations. Measurement uncertainty and design safety factors are not calculated.
